Employee Spotlight: CASEpeer Software Engineer Justin Le

In this Employee Spotlight segment, we are interviewing Justin Le, one of the software engineers on our Development Team.

Justin has been with CASEpeer for over a year and has played an important part in launching important features and streamlining our data imports for clients. If you enjoy CASEpeer’s powerful reporting features, that’s all thanks to Justin!

What role does the Software Development team play for CASEpeer?

The Software Development team (or Dev Team, as we’re affectionately called) has the job of developing CASEpeer into an intuitive case management system. We are hard at work developing a suite of features for personal injury firms to use at their disposal wherever they want, whenever they want.

I personally help maintain the functionality of existing features and develop new ones for users to have a smooth and seamless experience with CASEpeer. My work ranges from developing new integrations, streamlining reports, and data import infrastructure.

Who else is on your team?

Our team consists of software engineers and our scrum master. The Dev Team is broken down further into software development, data imports, and dev ops teams. All the engineers are skilled in full-stack development, but some of us are more skilled in certain areas than others. We try to leverage this and work on projects that allow us to maximize our skillset.

What projects or features have you worked on?

When I first started at CASEpeer, I joined as a developer for the data imports team where I worked with clients and eventually built the robust data imports infrastructure the team uses today.

I also work to constantly improve CASEpeer’s reporting tools to give clients high level, in-depth statistics to manage their caseload. It’s probably my favorite feature to work on. My goal at the end of the day is to make sure user interaction with our tables and reports is as seamless as possible, as well as to improve my front-end skills along the way.

What are you working on right now?

I am currently improving the code on CASEpeer’s Case Search feature to make it more comprehensive, but user-friendly. I’m also always implementing feedback from colleagues and clients to create new reports to visualize CASEpeer and client data in meaningful ways.

What is your current tech stack? What’s your favorite program to work with?

I primarily use Python, Django, and React. If I had to choose one, it would be Python because it’s easy to read, powerful for how few lines of code you write, and how applicable it is in so many industries. I’ve used it not only for building websites and web applications, but also for data analytics, data visualization, and machine learning.

What is your favorite part of working on the Dev Team and at CASEpeer?

My favorite part of the job is being able to build a product that provides value to attorneys who then use it to improve the lives of their clients. There is a sense of accomplishment when creating useful tools to solve these problems.

I am also learning something new every day as I work at CASEpeer. I work in a team that never settles with our current code – we are constantly looking to improve for ourselves and for our clients. I think this speaks to the company at large, and the innovative atmosphere here makes it such a great space to work in.

When you’re not working – and not under quarantine – where can we find you and what are your hobbies?

You can find me playing volleyball at the beaches of Orange Country – from San Clemente up to Huntington Beach. Pre-quarantine, I would go to the gym at least four times a week and occasionally put my coordination to the test with line dancing.
